OGBC staff threaten strike over unpaid salaries

Staff of the Ogun State owned Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) warned yesterday that they would begin an indefinite strike from Tuesday, May 9 over non-payment of four months salaries.

They spoke when they addressed a press conference under the aegis of the OGBC chapters of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and Radio, Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) at the NUJ secretariat, Abeokuta.

They said they had exhausted their patience because they had earlier given the management three different warnings and they took no action, explaining, “We had given the management notices 21days, 14 days and seven days, we are now giving another three days notice, which will lapse on Tuesday”.

These notices, he said, were to serve as avenues for negotiations and amicable resolution of the issue but there was no response from the management.

Apart from being owed salaries, Adelodun further claimed that the workers’ are being owed unremitted pension deductions from 2012 till date totalling about N50m, while their unremitted pension National Housing Fund was over N2m.

Adelodun appealed to the Governor to pay them their dues. When contacted, the General Manager of the station, Mr. Tunde Awolana admitted that the station owes the workers but refused to say how many months was owed.
