I will not interfere in operations of Kano anti-graft commission, says Ganduje

Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje

Kano State Governor Abdullah Umar Ganduje has repudiated insinuation and alleged influence on high profile cases before the state Public Complaint and
Anti-Corruption Commission.

The governor, who spoke yesterday while unveiling the anti-corruption special postage stamp, said those making the allegation are doing so to undermine the commission’s operations.

Ganduje stated that the commission has been given the independence to tackle corruption hindering the development of the country.“We are aware of the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government on anti-corruption fight in Nigeria and the outcome so far is encouraging. That is why Kano State Government is replicating the culture to rid the state of corruption.

“In the last two years of our administration, we have blocked linkages and wastages in governance, which has enabled us to save millions of naira,” he stated.

Ganduje said that he had directed the immediate sack of former commissioner for Land and suspended permanent secretary indicted by the commission, saying the government would not dabble into the affairs of the commission, no matter how prominent the person being investigated.

“If I can do this without minding political affiliation or sentiments, who else would they say the governor is favoured?“We have empowered the commission to carry out its operation without fear or favour and we shall continue to support them, because we are proud of their achievement recorded so far.”

Chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, noted that the commission had established offices across the 44 councils’ headquarters to facilitate accessibility and smooth operation.

He disclosed that the collaboration with Nigerian Postal Service was meant to institutionalise synergy in the fight against corruption.Postmaster General, Mr. Bisi Adegbuyi, said the launch of the stamps was to create mental symbol and further mobilise Nigerians’ conscience.
