Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins due to stand trial accused of two separate accounts of raping a baby and conspiracy to rape a child

The rock singer Ian Watkins is to stand trial tomorrow accused of two separate counts of raping a baby, sexually assaulting a baby, and conspiring to rape a child.
The 36-year-old former Lostprophets frontman has also has been charged with one count of sexual assault, one of aiding and abetting sexual assault by penetration and conspiracy to sexually assault a child.
In addition he faces 17 counts of making, taking and possessing indecent images and one of possessing extreme pornographic image involving an animal. He denies a total of 24 sexual offences.
Two women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also face sexual offence accusations as part of the case. The three defendants, who will be standing trial together, face a total of 32 charges.
A panel of 22 potential jurors has been picked from a pool of 72 people and will form the jury at the trial at Cardiff Crown Court in South Wales. All the potential jurors were asked today whether they knew or had links with up to two dozen prosecution witnesses or any locations which will figure in the trial.
Judge Justice Royce began today by warning the group that their involvement in the trial would necessitate watching some “very graphic material”.
He warned: "Often members of the jury have to listen to or view evidence which is very distressing or unpleasant. This is irrespective of the guilt or innocence of the defendant... This case involves allegations of sexual abuse of very young children and will involve the viewing of very graphic material.”
He added: “This case is to be tried on the evidence you will hear in court. It is very important that you do not carry out any of your own research".
Justice Royce also issued a “very serious warning” to potential jurors not to look up details about any of the defendants on the internet. Those who ignored the warning would face prosecution, he said.
He concluded with the question: “Are you a fan of the group called Lostprophets?”
Before adjourning for the day, he said the trial is scheduled to conclude by December 20, when court finishes for Christmas. If it runs over into the new year, proceedings will resume on January 6.
Of the jury panel of 22 people chosen today, a further six will be retained for an extra day in case they are needed.
Last month the remaining members of rock act Lostprophets, who have sold around 3.5 million records since their formation in 1997, announced that the band had split up.

Ed Sheeran album boosts UK music industry with sales up by more than 10% in first quarter

The UK music industry has seen Album Equivalent Sales for the first quarter of 2017 rise 10.7 per cent compared to last year, according to the Official Charts Company and BPI.
Several key releases, such as Rag 'n' Bone Man's record-breaking debut Human, Take That's recent album Wonderland, and Stormzy's hugely anticipated GSAP [Gang Signs & Prayer], helped out with a 55.6 per cent surge in audio streams, from 9,718,085,600 to 15,122,154,600.
Vinyl sales also continue to increase, with sales up 35.8 per cent on Q1 in 2016 from 637,056 to 865,285, Music Week reports.
Few will be surprised to hear that Ed Sheeran's astounding sales and streaming figures are what really helped the industry reach that statistic.
While Lukas Graham held the top-selling track with '7 Years' [856,559] in 2016, and Justin Bieber claimed the most-streamed with 'Love Yourself' [40,478,695], Sheeran obliterates both with his figures for Q1 in 2017: His song 'Shape of You' hit 1,811,910 total sales and an eye-watering 120,810,200 streams.
His third album ÷ [Divide] sold more than 1.3 million units in Q1, trouncing Adele's 25, which was the top-seller of that week in 2016 with sales of 405,895.BPI's director of research Chris Green said: "A number of high profile releases, not least from Ed Sheeran and Take That, combined with major album debuts from Rag'N'Bone Man and Stormzy, helped shape the market and get 2017 off to a positive start, with Album Equivalent Sales up by more than 10 per cent on the same period in 2016.
"Showcased to great effect by the BRITs, it was also encouraging that many of these titles were not only heavily streamed, but sold well on physical and download formats to underline the strong multi-channel dynamic of UK music consumption right now."

KENDRICK LAMAR SOMEHOW MADE FUTURE’S ‘MASK OFF’ EVEN BETTER

As if “Mask Off” couldn’t get any better, Future’s monster single has just gotten an epic boost from Kendrick Lamar.
The Compton rapper’s verse kicks off with singsongy swagger before he assumes a punchier flow to taunt his competitors. “Platinum, platinum, platinum / Gotta look at yourself and ask what happened / How y'all let a conscious n***a go commercial / While only makin' conscious albums? / How y'all let the braids on TV? / How y'all let the hood at the table?”
Throw in that flute-laced trap beat and a Prince name-check (“Prince live through me / Get your ass up and be inspired”), and you’ve got the fiery remix you never knew you needed.
Kendrick and Future are both in the midst of mammoth years. K. Dot is the artist with the biggest selling album of 2017 (DAMN.), and Future made history with back-to-back No. 1 albums (FUTUREHNDRXX). With that stellar track record, it’s no surprise this remix goes as hard as it does.

JUSTIN BIEBER OPENED UP TO NIALL HORAN WITH VALUABLE ADVICE FOR HIS SOLO ALBUM

When Justin Bieber gives you songwriting advice, you take it, and that's exactly what Niall Horan did when the pop singer shared with him a lesson he learned from the making of Purpose.
In a new cover story for Billboard, Horan opens up about the life he's made for himself in Los Angeles as he's settling into his career post-One Direction hiatus. There are so many amazing anecdotes here: He's super happy for Harry Styles's recent success with his own solo album; he hangs with Louis Tomlinson and is basically the cool uncle to his baby son, Freddie; he thinks pal Selena Gomez is "the perfect role model for young girls;" Shawn Mendes says that he's the picture of "calm and chill" — Horan comes across as your favorite famous person's favorite person, and one who beams with positivity, too.
But save for his time with the One Direction dudes, Bieber's wisdom seemed to have a the formidable impact on Horan as "Slow Hands" and the rest of his new work started to come together, and a simple bit of advice really struck Horan when he was in the midst of recording his own album.

ZAYN MALIK IS MOVING IN A MORE ‘OPTIMISTIC’ DIRECTION WITH HIS NEW ALBUM

Jury's still out as to whether we'll see a softer side of Zayn Malik on the follow-up to his solo debut, but one thing's for sure: It's shaping up to be more on the bright side compared to the moody tones of 2016's Mind of Mine, and his label is very, very down with this new direction.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Peter Edge — the CEO of Malik's label, RCA Records — dished on the forthcoming album, which doesn't have a title or a release date. What it does have is a cohesive, pervasive vibe: He notes that it "shows a lot of growth" and "has a more optimistic tone to it," and that the darker feel of Mind of Mine came out of the difficulties and challenges Malik faced when he made the decision to leave One Direction and strike out on his own.
For Edge, Malik's recent single, "Still Got Time," is a great indicator of what to expect in the coming months. "If you think about the lyrics, it’s talking about how it’s great to be young and knowing you’ve still got time to do everything you want to do in life," he continued.
In short: less brooding, more beaming. We're ready for it.
