Affected broadcast stations rush to pay
Barely 48 hours after the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) announced the revocation of 54 television and radio licences, the commission is yet to release the list of affected stations.
But indications emerged yesterday that some of those whose licences were revoked for failure to pay their fees within the “mandatory 60-day window have started paying.
Efforts by The Guardian to get the list of the affected stations proved abortive as officials in the Public Relations Department of the NBC said that the list had not been released.
Also, a text message sent to the director-general of the commission, Ish’aq Moddibo Kawu requesting for the list was not replied as at press time.
However, a source very close to the NBC told The Guardian that some of them had already sent in their cheques.
Also, Head of Public Affairs Unit of the commission, Hajia Maimuna Jimada, said the list would not be released yet because some of the affected licensees have started paying.
