APC urges free, fair council election in Delta

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has assured that the party would win in several councils if the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducts a free and fair election.

Prominent members of the party said this at a rally to flag off campaigns for local council elections slated for January 6, 2017, at Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South Council.

The APC chiefs, who attended the rally, included its Chairman, Jones Erue, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Ovie Omo- Agege and Samuel Ajogbe, among others, said the PDP was dying in the state.

They cautioned the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the PDP to conduct a free, fair and credible election on Saturday.

They asked the ruling PDP to stop writing results in Asaba because the era of writing result sheets, hijacking of voting materials, delaying election materials and using thugs to rig elections was over.

Speaking further, they tasked the Michael Ogbodu-led DESIC not to sell the destiny of Deltans.

Erue, while presenting the APC party flag to the chairmanship candidate in Ughelli South council, Francis Agunigho, urged supporters to troop out in their huge numbers to cast their votes on election.

He said the APC would defeat PDP because they do not have anything to offer in the state, saying the ruling party would die a natural death in Delta in 2019, adding that the PDP should forget about Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s second term bid.

He said the APC had already won Ughelli South chairmanship race because there was no other political party in the council, vowing that in 2019 government house would also be taken over by the APC.

The APC, he noted, was the only political party that has capacity to change Delta State from the shackles of the bondage the PDP has put the state.

Speaking earlier, former speaker of the state House of Assembly and now an APC chieftain, Victor Ochei, said the PDP would lose because it has lost touch with the people.

He added that the Okowa administration should test the PDP’s popularity by conducting a free and fair council poll, insisting that the APC would win by a large margin.
