Resident doctors kick as LAUTECH Teaching Hospital sacks 255, redeploys 299

LAUTECH

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital has sacked 255 of its workers and redeployed 299 to the state service.

The institution, which is jointly owned by Oyo and Osun states, has been having crisis of paying salaries and allowances of its workforce.

The affected workers went home quietly on Thursday as they read an internal memorandum signed by one A. M Ajiferuke, dated December 27, 2017 listing their names.

The one paragraphed memo reads: “Kindly find below the list of transferred staff as directed by the Oyo State Government and approved by the board at her meeting held on Thursday, 21st, December, 2017.”

However, the Association of Resident Doctors (ADR) has kicked against the redeployment of 55 resident doctors to Oyo State.

The ARD Chairman, Dr. Sebastine Owoi, described the redeployment of the resident doctors as “illegal” and threatened a showdown with the management of the hospital.

Owoi explained that the structure of the training of resident doctors does not give room for their transfer.

He assured that the latest anomaly would be resisted within all legal ambits.

Owoi said, “resident doctors can not be transferred according to the structure of their training. If the hospital is not accredited for their training, then they are allowed to go out as supernumerary in accredited institutions.’’

“But this is not what Oyo State government has done. Resident doctors are not medical officers that can be transferred. The battle has just begun. This anomaly will be resisted within all legal ambits.”‬
