Osun receives N6.3 billion from latest Paris Club refund
The Osun State Government yesterday disclosed that it received N6.3 billion as the third tranche of the Paris Club refund to states from the Federal Government.
The state Commissioner for Finance, Bola Oyebamiji, who made this known in Osogbo, disclosed that the apportionment committee headed by Hassan Sunmonu would sit over the fund and make decision on its disbursement.
Also speaking on the development, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Adelani Baderinwa, said the availability of the fund at this time was the handiwork of God.
“God had always been making things possible when it seemed there was not going to be a way. Civil servants and the people of Osun State would experience a measure of financial ease when the N6.3 billion is disbursed,” he said.
He thanked the workers of the state for their perseverance and urged them not to relent on their virtue.
Meanwhile, Governor Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola has urged workers in the state to persevere for a while following the financial hardship facing the state for some time.
Speaking at a meeting with labour leaders yesterday, Aregbesola expressed hope that the end to the financial challenges would soon be over and normalcy would return to governance in the state
Aregbesola, who acknowledged the co-operation, support and perseverance of the workforce since the financial challenge started, said history would judge them well as having made positive contributions to the development of the state.
He stressed that it was impossible for him to deliberately make life difficult for the workers he has invested so much in, saying the current situation was inevitable.
On the payment of November salary, Aregbesola said it was coming late as a result of late release of allocation from the Federation Account and lack of sufficient internally-generated revenue (IGR).
He added that government had always tried to get the modulated salary formula paid monthly and promptly so that workers and pensioners would have money to live on.
Aregbesola stated that the state has been consistent in the payment of salaries compared with other states where workers were being owed several months of salary arrears.
He noted that the present pattern of modulated salary payment could not be altered for now due to lack of funds, adding that workers would soon begin to receive payment alerts for their November salary.
However, the labour leaders turned down the offer of dinner even with entreaties from the Head of Service (HoS), Dr. Gboyega Oyebade.
