Chairman of Kosofe Council of Lagos State, Afolabi Sofola, has urged women in the community to undergo regular cancer check ups and for unusual growth in the body and report any case to the nearest health centre to prevent it from spreading to the next stage that is untreatable.

Sofola, who made the call at a breast cancer early detection and free screening programme held at the council’s health centre by Cancer Awareness Nigeria (ACN), noted that the health of citizens is the sole responsibility of the government, saying his administration identifies and has implemented programmes to improve the well being of residents.

He stated that the government has partnered with ACN to bring cancer awareness to residents, disclosing that no fewer than 300 women have been freely screened, while those above 40 years of age would undergo free mammogram to prevent the scourge, which is rated as the leading cause of death in the world.
