Jehovah’s Witnesses sect have been advised to get closer to God and never give up on their dreams. This is despite their fear, opposition and hardship occasioned by the economic downturn.
This counsel was given by the Governing Board of the sect, at its annual convention organised to uplift and guide delegates at the Assembly Hall, in Lekki, Lagos. The theme of the three-day conference: Don’t Give Up, hosted talks, interviews, multimedia and film exposures.
Speaking on Baptism: “Do Not Give In To Fear,” Bolarinwa Abiola said worshipping of Jehovah was not meant for cowards, and urged delegates to put on the complete armour of God to fight Satan’s machinations. He added that since Satan had boasted that nobody would serve Jehovah faithfully, everyone should resolve to serve God absolutely.
He explained some of the different types of fear and their implications range from the fear of man, the fear of making sacrifices, fear of persecution, the fear of death and that of ridicule from friends, families and workers.
According to him, the antidote to fear was total reliance on Jehovah, through reading and observing his commandments and instructions regularly. He charged 25 newly baptized witnesses to remain faithful and keep their dedication vows in good health or sickness, as well as in good and bad times.
Speaking on Imitate Prophet Jeremiah as recorded in Jeremiah chapter 1 verses 8-9, Joseph Idris revealed that in spite of the persecution of Jeremiah by false prophets and the people, he turned to Jehovah.
“We might be having similar challenges at home, work places and neighborhoods,” he said. Idris appealed to delegates not to be shaken by trials and urged them to use the Bible and publications; biblical advice from elders, Bible Library Index and consolidated website of Watch Tract Society to download latest books and other spiritual materials for encouragement. The highpoints of the event were the drama on Remember Lot’s Wife, experiences from delegates, reminders and summaries of Watchtower magazine.
