•MOSOP alleges military oppression in secretariat
An indigenous firm in Niger Delta, RoboMicheal Limited, has announced plans to establish a phone-making factory in Ogoni, River State.
The company’s Managing Director, Ayobo Michael Ibrahim, disclosed this yesterday at Bori, in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
She explained that it had signed a contract with a Chinese company to achieve the plan.
According to her, the proposed company would empower over 500 people who would be trained in technology.
Ibrahim added that the company would also address the issue of unemployment in Ogoniland and improve the living standard of the people.
At a consultation meeting with the Conference of Ogoni Traditional rulers, Women and Youths, she disclosed that the Federal Government had last month granted the firm a licence.
She stressed that the firm would operate the OML 11 and also set up industries in the area.
Ibrahim explained that the more plans to develop Ogoniland were underway, adding that every youth would be empowered with skills to sustain job creation in the area.
She disclosed that a new global city would also be built in the area with shopping malls, health centres and houses.
In addition, she said about 25 non-governmental organisations would relocate to Ogoni after the completion of the project.
Similarly, women and youths in Ogoniland, have called for the establishment of industries and projects to create jobs and skills acquisition for them.
Mrs. Berisi Duabari, who spoke on behalf of the women, lamented that there are no such projects to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Also, traditional rulers in Ogoni have pledged their readiness to support companies that would explore its oil and develop the area.
The Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers disclosed this after its annual general annual meeting at the palace of the Gbene-Mene Tai, King Godwin Gininwa, in Korokoro.
The Publicity Secretary of the council, Samuel Nnee, the Gbene-Mene, said the resumption of oil explorations in Ogoni would bring economic development and end agitations, cultism and criminality.
In another development, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has alleged that military men and RoboMichael had taken over its secretariat in Bori.
He said: "The action of RoboMicheal smacks the return of military oppression in Ogoniland. We condemn this action of RoboMicheal and the penchant of the Nigerian authorities to deploy troops to repress the wishes of our people.
"We demand a probe into the military occupation, especially given that we have not approved our secretariat for a meeting with RoboMicheal.
