The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, disclosed that 121 suspects had been arrested in cult-related violence.
A source disclosed that the deadly cult groups include Aiye (Ake) and Eiye confraternities.
It was further leant that some leaders of these groups spend “hard currency” to free their members when they are arrested.
Investigation revealed that they become blood thirsty after every secret oath-taking, which they perform during their periodic initiations in Asaba, Ughelli, Agbor, Ibusa and Warri metropolis.
They are said to often dress in corporate ways when monitoring their targets to avoid being identified as cultists.
But, in Asaba, these cult members are reported to display their membership and activities in the open, without fear of being apprehended.
The source added that Ogbeke, Umuaji and Umuagu communities are flash points of their operations, especially at night.
Only recently, policemen attached to “A” Division killed a suspected member of one of the cult groups during their patrol.
The police disclosed that the victim had attempted to rape a-13 year old girl in an uncompleted building around Ogbeke quarters before he was caught.
The police boss said they were working hard to ensure that cult activities are reduced to the barest minimum in the state.
He said those arrested would be charged to court soon and warned that it would no longer be business as usual for any cult member in the state.
Last Sunday, the people of Orerokpe, in Okpe Local Government Area of the state were threatened by the mayhem allegedly unleashed by a cult group.
An eye witness said the cultists, who were armed with axes, cutlass, guns and broken bottles, forcibly entered some hotels, attacked the occupants and stole their valuables.
