The Vigilante Association of Nigeria has called for a partnership with the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government to boost community policing in the state.
Commander of the Lagos State Command, Otunba James Udoma, said the partnership would curb crime at all levels.
While commending the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, for already partnering with the group, he said the concept of community policing would yield positive results.
"I have lived in Lagos for a long time now and we have seen the difference in making use of an operational man, who knows how to curb crime to get results.
"That is why I will give it to the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who has come on board with the vision we have, to key into the vision of grassroots community policing.
"We urge the state government to bring the vigilance groups on board. We are present in the 20 local councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs.) We have the unit commanders that are manning those areas.
"In every community or locality in Lagos, we have our members who understand the terrain or typography of their areas and can give you details of the crime. mapping of those areas and proffer solutions to the problem.
"The partnership the police have brought in now is a welcome development in curbing crime in Lagos."
