In recognition of their contributions to the corps and nation, the Nigerian Legion, Lagos State chapter, has promoted three of its members.
Speaking in Lagos on Thursday at an event to honour the officers, the state Chairman, Nigerian Legion and Deputy Commandant General, Corps of Nigerian Commissioniares (CNC), Comrade Fola Akande, said the occasion was to recognize and promote officers in the legion for their immense contributions to the Corps through dedication, hardwork and diligence.
The officers honoured at the occasion were Col. Opeyemi Augustine Efije (CNC), Col. Ayoola Ayoyinka Temitope (CNC) and Col. Opeyemi Ekundayo Omoh (CNC). They thanked the Nigerian Legion for the honour, which has motivated them and promised to put in more efforts to their duties.
While urging Nigerians to support the launch of the Nigerian Legion emblem and care for his people as ex-servicemen who deserve recognition and respect, Col. Akande advised other members to work hard and put God first in all they do.
Also, Secretary, Lagos chapter of the Legion, Comrade Nasiru Ijaodola, said the event was to appreciate the efforts and assistance of the decorated officer to the corps, as well as for positively promoting the image of the legion in the state. Ijaodola urged others to emulate their good works and advised all military retirees to join the Nigerian Legion.
Established by the Act of Parliament in 1964, amended by Decree 25 Interim Management of 1977 and later repealed by Decree 37 NO. 64 Volume 75 dated 30th September 1988, Ijaodola said that the aim of the Nigerian Legion is to cater for the welfare of retirees comprising those of Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force and foster comradeship among them.
Akande said it was established by the Federal Government to recruit and train able young male and female Nigerians of 18 years and above on security duties and military ideology.
