Moved by the passion to inculcate good leadership traits in young ones and help improve quality of teaching and learning in public secondary schools, a non-profit organisation, the Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe (HOW) Foundation, has organised youth development seminar for select students in Lagos.
Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the foundation, Antonia Ally, who reiterated the foundation’s commitment to the overall wellbeing of the youths, said the second edition of “Be the Best’’ series, a two-day seminar held at Okesuna Senior Secondary School, Obalende, and Aguda Grammar School, Surulere, Lagos, was aimed at exposing students to right knowledge and new thinking that will guide them in life.
Ally said that the charity organisation, founded in January last year, will continually invest in youth empowerment, education, leadership and mentorship projects so as to make a greater impact in the society.
According to her, “The seminar was borne out of the need to help young ones believe in themselves and encourage young Nigerians to embrace innovation and creativity.
“This is the second edition of the seminar, we go to schools to motivate and encourage students to be hopeful and hardworking irrespective of societal issues. We bring speakers that the children can relate to, who were not born into wealth, to motivate and inspire them that they can reach their goals regardless of their background.”
Guest speaker at the seminar was popular Nigerian musician, Esegine Allen, also known as Orezi. He advised the students to make education the foundation on which they build their dreams, adding “More often than not, education serves as a springboard to an individual’s greatness. I had a background like yours and I cannot recall getting an opportunity like this. Perseverance is a major attribute you have to imbibe to be successful in life,” he said.
The Foundation also donated sick bay facilities, archer chairs, LED televisions, laptops and first aid boxes to the two schools.
Principal of Aguda Grammar School, Mr. Olajide Olunoiki, while commending the foundation for their generosity and initiative, stressed that it will go a long way in motivating students to work harder.
