Architects condole with Ekwueme’s family

Alex Ekwueme

The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), yesterday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immortalise the late former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, by naming a national edifice in his memory.

President of the Institute, Tonye Oliver Braide, in a statement, described the demise of the foremost architect as a big blow to the profession.

According to him, “the Institute received the news of the transition of its former President and ex-Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Architect (Dr.) Alex Ekwueme, as a big shock.”

Until his demise, Braide said Ekwueme was the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Institute and former President, Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

His words of wisdom, candour and contributions to the Institute and the profession, he said, will be missed in Nigeria and beyond.

According to Braide, it was because of Ekwueme’s immeasurable contributions to the profession that the Institute honoured him with the first Nigeria’s Distinguished Architect’s Lecture in 2015.
