NSCDC arrests six illegal gold miners in Minna

The arrest became necessary because the miners failed to heed the warnings given by the residents that they are not comfortable with the security threat posed to their lives by their activities.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger says it has arrested six illegal gold miners in the state.

The State Commandant, Mr Philip Ayuba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday that the suspects were arrested on Mandela Road in Minna.

The suspects were apprehended while carrying out their illegal activities in residential areas along Mandela Road, he said.

According to him, the arrest became necessary because the miners failed to heed the warnings given by the residents that they are not comfortable with the security threat posed to their lives by their activities.

Ayuba said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

He appealed to the public to provide the command useful information about the activities of illegal miners in the state.
