Police intercept five Boko Haram suspects in Kano

Kano State Police Commissioner, Rabiu Yusuf, while addressing journalists yesterday said one of the suspects who escaped with gunshot during the operation was a dismissed Air Force officer who is now at large.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspected Boko Haram members in the state after a gun dwell that lasted several hours.The terrorists according to the police were arrested at about 2:00am yesterday at Gayawa quarters in Ungogo local council of the state.

Kano State Police Commissioner, Rabiu Yusuf, while addressing journalists yesterday said one of the suspects who escaped with gunshot during the operation was a dismissed Air Force officer who is now at large.

The suspects paraded were: Abba Muhammad of Niger Republic (20), Usman A. Buhari (23), from Borno State, Illiasu Abdullahi (46) of Gezawa local council of Kano state.

The two pregnant females were Aisah Yau (25) and Ladidi Yunusa (27) both of Kwarna hudu quarters in Nassarawa council of Kano State. The CP said one of the suspects made confessional statement to the police of their hideout and plans to launch series of attack on places of worship, public gathering and other strategic places of interest.

Also, troops of 103 Battalion, Operation Lafiya Dole of the Nigerian Army said it has killed three female suicide bombers who were trying to infiltrate their location at Kawuri, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

A statement by Army Spokesman, Brig. Gen Sani Usman, said the female suicide bombers who were on obvious mission of committing mayhem, were spotted by a vigilant sentry while they were trying to access the military location.

Meanwhile, more Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered to troops of 27 Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole at Buni Yari, Gujba Local council of Yobe State.
They belong to the Mamman Nur faction of the Boko Haram terrorists group.

Troops of 159 Battalion of the Nigerian Army said it has arrested a suspected logistics supplier to Boko Haram terrorists, one Hassan Yusuf.Usman in Abuja, said Yusuf, 43 who hailed from Dangana in Chad Republic, was intercepted while attempting to cross over to Chad.

Sani said the suspect was found with some smuggled spare parts and other items across the border in a Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number AE-646-VBY (Benue), and he is being interrogated further.

In another development, the Nigerian Army has airlifted 43 surrendered Boko Haram insurgents to Gombe for a 16-week deradicalisation and rehabilitation programme of Operation Safe Corridor (OSC).

This was disclosed yesterday in Maiduguri, by the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, while handing them over to the commander of Operation Safe Corridor at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.While assuring the surrendered insurgents that they would be given a new lease of life, he urged them to embrace peace and undertake the programme whole-heartedly.
