FG returns 198 illegal migrants from Saudi Arabia

“The illegal migrants voluntarily reported to the Nigerian Embassy for deportation to Nigeria in compliance with the three months evacuation notice issued to them by Saudi authorities, which will expire on July 24,” Sani disclosed.

Among the first batch of 220 illegal migrants from Nigeria residing in Saudi Arabia, 198 were returned to the country through the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), yesterday.

Muhammad Yahaya Sani, Consulate General of Nigeria, who led the illegal immigrants to Nigeria, revealed that the Federal Government sponsored their return.

He said: “The illegal migrants voluntarily reported to the Nigerian Embassy for deportation to Nigeria in compliance with the three months evacuation notice issued to them by Saudi authorities, which will expire on July 24,” Sani disclosed.

According to him they were not deported. “They decided on their own to return to Nigeria. The Saudi authorities offered amnesty to all illegal immigrants to leave the country within three months,” he added.

The returnees were handed over to the officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the airport, where their return was documented and after which they would go to their respective states, towns and villages.
