NEW DELHI: Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus is set to launch its latest 'flagship killer' smartphone OnePlus 5 soon. But it seems like the company is in no mood of updating its older smartphones, in this case - OnePlus 2.
A statement provided by OnePlus' customer support in response to a query has revealed that the company plans to discontinue Android updates.
The statement, which was posted on XDA forums website, reads, "As much as we would like to give the latest update on OnePlus 2, we've discontinued updates for dated devices. But we will continue to support the limited warranty for current users and provide updates and support the best way we can even for OnePlus 2 users."
This clearly means that Android 7.0 Nougat will not be reaching OnePlus 2.
For those unaware, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 2 back in 2015. The smartphone comes in two variants -- 16GB and 64GB. It features a 5.5-inch Full HD display of 1080x1920 pixel resolution. There's a fingerprint sensor below the display as well.
This dual-SIM smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC.
OnePlus 2 sports a 13MP rear camera with laser autofocus, dual-LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization system. On the front, there's a 5MP selfie camera. The phone packs a 3,300mAh battery.
Recently, OnePlus seeded new beta builds for its OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. These include several optimizations, UI improvements, new feature additions and more.
The new open builds for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T include Ambient Display 2.0, which prevents accidental screen wake ups. You can also wake the screen up with a 'double tap' action. The feature includes something called 'lift up' display, which lets you peek at the notifications without activating the entire display.
