Journalists for Democratic Rights (JODER) will tomorrow in Lagos, hold a one-day diversity training programme for Nigerian journalists. No fewer than 30 journalists drawn from electronic, print and social media will attend the programme.
Journalists for Democratic Rights (JODER) will tomorrow in Lagos, hold a one-day diversity training programme for Nigerian journalists. No fewer than 30 journalists drawn from electronic, print and social media will attend the programme.
A statement by the JODER Executive Director, Mr Adewale Adeoye said the training would improve the quality of media coverage of diversity in Nigeria. The training is with the support of the New York based Institute for International Education as facilitated by the Ford Foundation, West Africa Regional Office.
JODER said “Nigeria is a rainbow nation with a lot of diversity in culture, minority issues, religion, ethnicity and values. These breed a conflict of interests with far-reaching consequences on information dissemination for a media that appears to be equally polarised.”
He said at present, Nigeria has to contend with unfortunate incidences of extreme poverty, violence, exclusion that breed conflict and underdevelopment. He said the media should set a fresh tone of debate in the search for utilitarian communication norms and practices.
