South East to reinvent Okpara’s legacies for economic development

How to reinvent the late Dr. Micheal Okpara’s mode of administration and use it to reposition the economy of the southeast as was obtainable in the 60’s will dominate the podium debate next week as economic experts gather in Enugu to seek better ways forward for the development and growth of the zone.

At a podium debate, entitled “Towards a new leadership for a broken nation” to be chaired by former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Charles Soludo, experts would review the administration of Okpara who was Premier of old eastern region, with a view to recommending them for governance in the zone. A Policy analysis institution, African Heritage Institution, is putting the event together.


Executive Director of the institute, Prof Ufo Okeke-Uzodike told The Guardian that looking back to a prospective future by drawing on the good works of past leaders of the country had become necessary since they were able to pilot the affairs of their various regions with what was obtainable in the areas, as well as built enduring legacies.

Stressing that the former ambassador to the United States, Israel and Cyprus, Prof George Obiozor would be guest speaker with former Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof Elo Amucheazi and Prof Aloy Okolie, head of Political Science department of t UNN as discussants, he stated that the lesson to be derived from the Okpara administration was the main reason behind his choice.
