The Nigerian Senate Thursday passed the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill, seventeen years after it was first introduced to the National Assembly.
The bill seeks to reform the country's oil and gas industry, which has been bogged down by decades of lack of transparency and corruption.
"I congratulate the 8th Senate with the passage of this landmark bill which has not been passed for many years,”," Senate President Bukola Saraki said.
The Senate spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said last week that the Senate would also fast-track the passage of the Host Community Bill and the Fiscal Regime bills.
More details soon.
