The final report of the Senate ad-hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North East has revealed that contractors paid over N500m in kickbacks to a company linked to the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal.

Senate Confirms Two New Ministers
The Senate has screened and confirmed Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan as ministers, following their nominations by President Muhammadu Buhari in March.
Mr. Ocheni is from Kogi State which has not had anyone in the Federal Executive Council, as constitutionally required, since the death of James Ocholi in an accident last year.
Mr. Hassan, Gombe State, is to replace Amina Mohammed who left Nigeria’s public service to take up top responsibility at the United Nations.

Nigerian Embassy In U.S. Shutdown Over Nonpayment Of 5 Months Salaries
Workers at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington have been on a sit-in, paralysing activities at the mission in the United States. The workers said they have not been paid salaries for the past five months, forcing them to embark on the strike.
Although some departments of the embassy are said to still be functional, they threatened to report the embassy to the U.S. Labour Department.
According to Channels, there were no official functions at the embassy on Tuesday, as the workers only gathered at the lunch room in the basement.
The embassy in Washington and the consulate in New York are said to be currently cash strapped, with staff and local workers not being paid for months.
A source close to the Presidency said there has been a lot of mismanagement of resources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, causing a lack of concern for staff welfare and difficulty in the missions being able to carry out their functions.

Ex Gov Babangida Aliyu Granted Bail
A Minna High Court on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of N150 million to former Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger, charged with N4.568 billion misappropriation.
Aliyu was arraigned last Tuesday on a six-count charge alongside Umar Nasko, the Chief of Staff under his administration.
The former officials were accused of conspiring and dishonestly converting for personal use, the sum belonging to Niger State Government.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is prosecuting the former officials, the misappropriated funds are ecological projects funds as well as money realised from the sale of 16 per cent shares of the state in the North-South Power Company.
