Obaseki assures varsities’ alumni associations of support

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki has disclosed that the emergence of three Edo State-owned universities was testament to his government’s prioritisation of university education.

He, therefore, reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to ensure the 2017 Conference of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities (CAANU) was successful.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, spoke when he met with members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of CAANU at Government House in Benin City.

He also emphasised that the establishment of Tayo Akpata University in the state was to build capacity so that students who acquired skills from the institution would be self-reliant and employers of labour.

Obaseki also commended the alumni on the visit, commenting that the conferences and seminars being held in Edo State were indications of the confidence and trust reposed in his administration, with the latest of them set to hold in Igbinedion University, Okada.

CAANU’s national chairman, Professor Ahmed Tijani, who led the delegation, spoke on the activities of the association, while appreciating the state government for promoting tertiary education.
