NUC, ASUU differ on Buhari's performance in education

As President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration clocks two years tomorrow, divergent opinions have emerged concerning its performance in the education sector.

While assessing the government, especially in the tertiary education sub-sector, the National Universities Commission (NUC) rated the administration high, noting that it had impacted positively.

Director of Information and Public Relations, NUC, Malam Ibrahim Usman Yakasai told The Guardian that government had done a lot in the last two years to refocus universities and bring them in tune with 21st century demands.

According to Yakasai, "What government has been trying to do in the last two years is to return the universities to their lost glories and refocus them.

However, university teachers have a different opinion. ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi gave the Buhari administration a thumps down, especially in the area of funding of education sector.
