GTBank Lagos Principals Cup Season Eight finals hold today

Secondary school students in Lagos are set to lit the Main Bowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium on fire, as the finals of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank Plc) Lagos State Principals Cup hold today in both the boys and girls’ categories.

Highly enterprising Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School, Ojokoro will square up with Ikotun Senior High School, Ikotun, as Isale Eko Grammar School, Lagos Island will meet Government Senior College, Agege in the boys and girls’ group respectively.

This year’s finals is part of the state official event to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebration of Lagos at 50. The competition is seen as one of the biggest grassroots sports development played among secondary schools in West Africa.

Role call of past winners in boys’ cadre include Gaskiya Senior College, Badia-Ijora winning the cup in 2010; Egan Senior Secondary School, Alimosho (2011); Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Agege (2012, 2016); Keke Senior High School, Ifako-Ijaiye (2013); Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu (2014); and Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Sabo (2015).

In the girls’ unit, Alakoto Senior Secondary School, Ajegunle won the cup in 2010 and 2011; Kuje Senior Secondary School, Amuwo-Odofin (2012); Ikotun Senior High School, Ikotun (2013, 2015, 2016) and Government Senior College, Agege (2014).

Commenting on the finals today, an elated Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of GTBank Plc, Segun Agbaje, said it interesting to see new schools appearing in their first final of the competition.

“We are delighted to see schools aiming for their first ever trophies in this competition. It emphasizes the growing stature of the GTBank Lagos State Principals Cup as a platform for the cultivation of dreams through hard work and discipline.

“When these young talents go on to accomplish many great goals in their lives, they will look back on this competition as the time when they first gained the courage to dare, and built the will to win,” he stated.
