Democracy celebration: Nigerian Democracy still wobbling, says Catholic Archbishop

As Nigerians celebrate another democracy day on Monday, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastic Province, Dr. Anthony Obinna has described the journey since the enthronement of democracy in 1999, as a ‘wobbling democracy’’, saying that he has no passion for democracy in Nigeria.

Obinna, accompanied by the Imo state Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities, Obinna Nshirim, Director of Communication of the Archdiocese, Fr. George Nwachukwu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Dr. Azu Uwandu, stated this yesterday while addressing journalists on the World Communication day taking place tomorrow.

He regretted that the style of leadership and followership appeared to be in question and there is “carry over of military tyranny” and large scale stealing of public funds by public officers.

While urging journalists to work not minding poor remuneration and hazards, he urged that they shouldn’t allow the nation’s leaders dampen their spirits.
