Enugu Rangers
Champions of Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), Rangers of Enugu, failed to live up to their pre-match boast, losing 0-3 to Zesco United of Zambia in the second leg of their CAF Confederations Cup playoff to wave goodbye to the competition. The Nigerian side had squandered a 2-0 lead to end their first leg tie 2-2 last week in Enugu.
In yesterday’s game played in Ndola, the Flying Antelopes could only float along for 25 minutes before falling 0-2, no thanks to a double strike by John Ching Audu, who scored in 25th and 38th minutes.
The Nigerians conceded one more goal later in the game to end the tie 3-0 on 5-2 aggregate. The team and Rivers United failed to make appreciable impact in the CAF Champions League. Rangers was said to have proceeded straight from airport to the stadium on arrival in Ndola for the match yesterday.
The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and CAF Executive member, Amaju Pinnick, had on Friday saved Rangers from being walked over against Zesco United, following their allowances imbroglio which led to their late departure to Zambia.
Pinnick made efforts to ensure the game was shifted by four hours when it was clear Rangers won’t get to Ndola on time for the tie. Rangers was initially expected to arrive in Ndola venue of the game by 2.00pm Zambian time, with the game to go on 45 minutes later.
