Okoh, Omobude preach sacrifice to overcome economic, security challenges

Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, Primate of all Nigeria (Anglican Communion)

The Primate of All Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh has assured that the nation would soon overcome economic recession and security challenge posed by armed herdsmen.

He called on the Federal Government to disarm the herdsmen. Also, the National President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the General Superintendent of Gospel Light International Ministries, Rev. Felix Omobude asked Nigerians to imbibe the culture of sacrifice, humility and reconciliation, which Easter brings.

Omobude spoke yesterday at his church in Benin, Edo State. While delivering his Easter massage yesterday in Abuja, Okoh said the country cannot make progress unless the menace of herdsmen is addressed.

The primate observed that the agricultural development is already affected as local farmers have shunned their farms because of fear of attacks from herdsmen.

He said: “The new generation of herdsmen who are killers should be disarmed by the government. We have a capable standing army that can do the job and it is no big deal to disarm them. It is the biggest problem facing the country right now and we appeal to those we elected to pay attention to this matter as Nigerians are under affliction as a result of the activities of rampaging herdsmen.”

Omobude said the resurrection of Jesus Christ gave credence to the Christian faith and by the sacrifice of Christ; God built a bridge between man and God which teaches the lesson of reconciliation.

His words: “We learn humility; God’s son who has the power to call legions of angels to defend himself did not. He is submitted to the will of the father by dying a shameful death on the cross. We learnt the lesson of sacrifice.

“This means that if you love anybody you need to sacrifice for him or her. If we love our nation we must be willing as an individual to make sacrifices. Every Nigerian must be willing to sacrifice for this nation.

“The street sweeper who does his/her job faithfully is joining in building the nation. If you decide as an individual to live your own life upright where other are stealing money, you insist on doing what is right, you are a builder of the nation, you are making sacrifices for the nation.

“If everyone of us as an individual does our part, this nation will be a better place. Many times we accuse the government, but government cannot do everything. It is not government that tells the people that when they gather refuse they should go and block the drainages or throw it into the street, drive against traffic or involve in all kinds of vices. We must begin to live decently.”
