Obasanjo never stormed out of event, says Police

The Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, yesterday refuted allegations that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, stormed out of an event organised by the police.

Obasanjo had attended the bi-annual Special Training and Capacity Development Seminar for police officers, which was billed to start at 10.30am but dragged till 11.52am. A breach in protocol by the police kept the former president waiting for over an hour. Obasanjo who mounted the podium had told the police to be ready when next they call him, before he took his leave. However, the police said the press, who did not understand that the former president had made that statement as a lighter note, misconstrued the situation.

In a statement sent by the Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said the statement made by Obasanjo was just banter."The general public is hereby urged to disregard the story as a lone error in situation appraisal that it truly is."
