Egypt sues Hayatou, Amrani over alleged ethical violations

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, Issa Hayatou, and the Secretary General, Hicham Amrani, have been dragged to an Egyptian Court on charges of violation of competition laws as far as broadcast rights of continental tournaments is concerned, reports soka25east.com

This is a result of investigations carried out by the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) concerning Lagardère Sports deal that gave the company exclusive rights to broadcast football content for a period of 12 years from 2017 until 2028, a monopolistic practice that infringed local laws.

The contract includes terrestrial and satellite broadcast television and broadcast over the Internet on the scope of the whole world.The case will be heard on 3rd of April after it was postponed so that an opportunity be provided for the media house involved and Hayatou and for those who defend them to mobilize.

CAF headquarters are hosted in Egypt in the city of Cairo something that makes the country’s goverment insist that the decisions of its officials are subject to the country’s laws.
