Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari and Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Monday Igbuya, yesterday harped on gender equality and women empowerment.

In a statement by Suleiman Haruna, Director of Information in her office, Mrs. Buhari noted that women, especially in Nigeria, were the most deprived and impoverished. According to her, the unfortunate situation is being helped by some socio-economic factors in the society.

Also, Igbuya, in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr. Henry Eberiere yesterday in Asaba, took stock of strides made so far towards the attainment of gender equality nationwide, promising to protect women’s rights through legislative reforms. He praised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for improving the status of the sex in the country.

“Delta State is a better place for women and girls. We have more women in the legislative arm and decision-making bodies. We are committed to the full empowerment of women in the state,” he added.
